Im Schloß der fahlen Schatten ("In the Castle of wanly Shadows") is the 396th issue of Spuk Geschichten ("Haunted Stories"), a German comic anthology series primarily following the exploits of the 17th century demon hunter Arsat.

Description

In the eponymous main story, Gino, while staying overnight in a village with Arsat and Carmilla, witness the owner of their inn unloading a bound and gagged woman from a wagon. As the owner and the people with the wagon talk about payment, Gino assumes that they are slavers. The woman is put away in the barn beside the inn. Gino waits until everyone is gone and then sneaks into the barn to rescue the woman. She explains to him that she was kidnapped to be a sacrifice for an entity that lives in an abandoned Castle close by.

Arsat, Carmilla and Gino head out to investigate the castle and after some encounters with hostile ghosts discover a worm like "souleater" being behind it. The being snatches up Carmilla with its tentacles to eat her, but once he swallows her he explodes, Carmilla´s witch side and her magical amulet reacting violently with the interior of the demon.
