Der Fluch der Adria ("The Curse of the Adria") is the 391st issue of Spuk Geschichten ("Haunted Stories"), a German comic anthology series primarily following the exploits of the 17th century demon hunter Arsat.

Description

In the eponymous main story, Arsat, Carmilla and Gino set out on a ship to find and battle a Sea-Monster which has been a hazard to Venetian trade for a few weeks. They engage the Monster and destroy it, but their ship gets wrecked in the process, stranding them on the coast of north africa.

There a scout of the local ruler sees Arsat work some magic to fend off the attack of an animal, believing him to be a magican called Barmir, who is the leader of a group of rebels hiding in the mountains. Arsat, Carmilla, Gino and the rest of the surviving crew get captured and the local ruler forces Arsat to ride out with his army to guide them to the rebel base, or else his friends will be killed. While Arsat plays along for the moment the ruler visits Carmilla in her dungeon cell, attempting to force himself on her, this is cut short by the rulers wife who promptly orders Carmillas execution.

As she is overlooking the place of the execution and Carmilla being led, in shredded cloth and hands bound to the chopping block, she dons Carmillas magical amulet that she took from her, which transforms her into a rapidly growing lizard like being. Meanwhile Arsat, who has outwitted the army and allied with the rebels, returns, rescuing Carmilla from the Executioner.
